They call it the Grand Palace, the name I think is totally justified. Covering 218,000 square metres surrounded by 4 walls and completed around 1782. It was built for King Rama I’s ascension to the throne. Before this the royal palace and centre of administration was located in Thonburi. For many reasons the King decided this old location was not appropriate anymore to set up the new capital the City of Angels: Bangkok.

Another day, another wonder. With a population of 4 million Bangkok is a busy place, the recent protests have hit worldwide headlines, but I’ve come across nothing but a load of ‘BNE was here’ graffiti everywhere. Oh and this police line up, which seemed to be more practise and getting in the way then anything else:

An impressive structure lining the river
Arriving in Bangkok completely unprepared I was thankful to meet Neil from Australia in my dorm who has been to Bangkok many times so I went out with him for the night.
