View in Japan from mountain

Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all my readers! I hope you have a good one and would like to thank you for your support over the year. I’ve included a photo from near my workplace to celebrate today and show you all a taste of where I’m living in Japan over the next year.

Lolitas and Leaflets

November 23, 2010 · 3 comments

Walking around Akinhabara you’ll notice a lot of girls dressed up promoting shops by handing out leaflets. They tend to sport the lolita style outfit to gain attention, because cute (or kawaii in Japanese) rules over everything else. I collected the leaflets for a night trying to figure out what they were. At first glance they look like something a pimp would hand out, but they are actually promoting all sorts of things. Cafe’s, electronics shops and massage parlours (legit ones) seem to be the most popular.

It’s been a while since I’ve put a mid-week photo up here, and you’ve probably noticed my new header image since I’ve been in Japan (I tend to change my header to a place that I’m visiting even if it’s not what I’m blogging about). If you’re reading this in an RSS reader then it’s worth popping by to see what a difference it makes. Ironically this has less detail than my header because it’s much smaller. Anyhow here is the full image:

Forget the main streets too, check out the backstreets for even more things you never thought existed

Be sure to visit Anna’s blog running ‘Show me Japan’ photo series who inspired me to put this one up, she can be found at BudgetTrouble.com

I must apologise for my lack of updates recently, but a full time job has kept me busy here in Japan, however I am generally enjoying myself which I’m not going to apologise for :-) The snow season is coming to where I’m living soon so I will hopefully be able to bring you photography of Japanese mountains local to me.

To make up my lack of updates to my lovely readers, I bring you a musician from Japan who I never heard of before I got here and accidentally stumbled upon. I seriously rate this guy as good a guitarist as Jimi Hendrix. His name is Miyavi, and this is the translated version of his song selfish love, so enjoy…

As I’m from the UK, this article is based on my experience for applying for the Japanese working holiday visa as a UK citizen, I have included details on the variations on different countries options though, there are slight variations in requirements depending on which country you are coming from. Japanese working holiday visas (which entitle the owner to stay in Japan and gives them the legal requirement to work) are for residents from the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Denmark, France, Germany, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. With the exception of Ireland (which is 18-25) residents of these countries applying for the Japan WH visa must be between the ages of 18 and 30 (inclusive). Read the rest! \(^u^)/ →
