Before I arrive at a destination I always check hostel websites to book before I arrive, it’s handy because I can read reviews of other people that have stayed and choose the most appropriate one for my budget (that’ll be the cheapest one without rats and cockroaches everywhere then).
I have tried in the past hostels.com, hostelworld.com and hostelbookers.com. I’ve been satisfied with all 3 websites, so on which one to use, naturally I’d go for the cheapest one.

We used hostelbookers all the time while traveling, and found it to be the best price out of the three. As long as we stayed in a place with an 80% or higher review, it was always wicked. They get my nod of approval for sure.

I previously never thought to compare hostel prices as I assumed they would all be the same, I guess one should stick with the same old mantra of shopping around to get the best deal though.
That is a good promotion, sadly I’m now too busy with work to be able to backpack/travel. Though, funnily enough, you have the same first name as my bf (Robert), and he spent the last 3 years backpacking across the world. The problem with most Hostel Websites is that is something you see online and another when you actually get there. I do not know if this is valid everywhere but here this is a common problem. I am actually helping some of them offer more detailed information, for example – how large the beds are – especially since my father is tall and has a problem with small beds. My parents usually refuse to book anything online and i believe the main problem is the websites don’t offer enough information.
That sort of information is seldom given anywhere to be honest. Most beds are standard size (child, single, double, queen, king). I doubt any hostels have the larger size beds as they are budget accommodation. Hotels (expensive ones) would only have the larger beds that maybe your father needs. I’ve always found the hostel websites to give more information than most hotel websites too (just lack photos mostly).
Wow – thank you for your answer :) This is the first time a blog owner actually made a reply to one of my comments – that tells me a lot :D Well, here is like this: you see double bed in the description, and when you get there you often find two beds next to each other..and this happens a lot. Ohh, and another problem are abbreviations – why can’t they just write down the whole words when they make a room description.
Yeah, abbreviations can be cut down with a bit of care. 2 singles pushed together and sold as a double is misadvertisement though. Worth speaking up about that reviewing the place of accommodation after.
