Riding the Elephant

Riding the Elephant

Northern Thailand is a complete contrast of the south which is known for it’s islands and beaches: the north is where you go for the jungle and trekking. This also means encounters with wild animals, one of the more well known in Thailand is the elephant, meaning opportunities to get on board and ride one through the Jungle.

After meeting with my well endowed large eared friend, we got on board for a photo and a walk around. A few minutes in and the rain came down on us, hard. The waterproof clothing was near enough useless. The elephants got a few bananas for their efforts early on too.

Whilst attempting to take a photo I dropped my water bottle. Instantly the elephant stopped and digged around in the bush much to the guide walking on the grounds confusion. A bit of scrambling and the elephant found the bottle and passed it back to me using his trunk! Not sure how they can train for that, but I certainly wasn’t expecting it. I didn’t drink the water after as it had landed in mud and had elephant breath on (not nice).
