Lolitas and Leaflets

November 23, 2010 · 3 comments

Walking around Akinhabara you’ll notice a lot of girls dressed up promoting shops by handing out leaflets. They tend to sport the lolita style outfit to gain attention, because cute (or kawaii in Japanese) rules over everything else. I collected the leaflets for a night trying to figure out what they were. At first glance they look like something a pimp would hand out, but they are actually promoting all sorts of things. Cafe’s, electronics shops and massage parlours (legit ones) seem to be the most popular.

I must apologise for my lack of updates recently, but a full time job has kept me busy here in Japan, however I am generally enjoying myself which I’m not going to apologise for :-) The snow season is coming to where I’m living soon so I will hopefully be able to bring you photography of Japanese mountains local to me.

To make up my lack of updates to my lovely readers, I bring you a musician from Japan who I never heard of before I got here and accidentally stumbled upon. I seriously rate this guy as good a guitarist as Jimi Hendrix. His name is Miyavi, and this is the translated version of his song selfish love, so enjoy…

It’s all well and good deciding to go on a long distance campervan trip, and that you want to buy your own campervan to do so, but what checks should you do to make sure it will be up to the job?

I recently discovered the perfect solution for my adventurous spirit: a truck camper combo. This versatile setup combines the maneuverability of a truck with the comfort of a camper, making it ideal for those weekend getaways and extended road trips.

Some newish vans are as likely to give you problems as a 20 year old one. I’ve got some previous mechanic experience and know what to look out for, so here is a list of things you should be looking for underneath the funky paintjob.

Just a random advertisement I saw in an electronics shop in Tokyo (ninja’s advertising external hard drives):

This article proved so popular I wrote another one a year later which can be found here.
In this article I’m going to break down everything that I will travel with on my next trip, what I travelled with in the past, and analyse it so you know what works and what doesn’t. I think everyone travels with too much stuff, if not initially then you pick stuff on on route which adds to the bulk. My stuff spread out below looks quite a lot alone. There really isn’t a need for it all and I think it comes from a materialistic background of having and consuming lots of stuff.
