This post deals with the frustrating issues that your vehicle can give you on and road and is a continuation of the previous campervan maintenance post. I will detail the 2 techniques you need from the 2 most common problems – punctured tyres, and flat batteries.
This post is not just appropriate for camper vans, but any vehicle you intend to do a long distance road trip with. With things like the Mongol rally becoming popular and modern cars being reliable with just an annual service, many people are venturing off on adventures without preparation and becoming disappointed, frustrated and out of pocket when a mechanical failure stops everything. A bit of preparation will stop you claiming on your travel insurance and help you maximise your trip enjoyment.
Previously before I got into travelling, I was heavily into cars, they were my main hobby. Although that doesn’t mean much if you don’t get your head under a bonnet and just like the pretty bits. Fortunately (?) I did, and spent an entire year converting my blown engine (thanks to an ex-girlfriend) into a supercharged uprated machine capable of much more. This was on a 24 year old Toyota too, not a modern car. So now you know my credentials on the subject, I’m going to break it down into simple steps to preventing problems and covering the basics to get you over 80% of issues you’ll likely experience. However, if your vehicle has serious mechanical issues, bringing it to an auto body repair shop is highly recommended.
The kind Nokia people at WOMWorld sent me a Nokia N8 to trial for 3 weeks and use it to enter the #N8 Producers competition to win a zero-gravity experience and flights to Florida. Unfortunately I didn’t get to keep the phone (boo) but I certainly enjoyed playing with it for a bit, coming from a Nokia 5800 and many other Nokias before, I got familiar quickly. Anyway, before I get too deep into the review, here is the video I submitted to the competition, it is of where I’m living in Japan at the moment.
In Japan, the Emperor says hello on 26th December (his birthday) and 2nd January (to send his wishes for the new year). He opens up the grounds of the Imperial Palace on these 2 days for the public to go along and get a glimpse inside (usually you can only visit the gardens of the Palace or get an official tour inside).
I went along on the 2nd Jan 2011 to have a look and this is what I was greeted with… Read the rest! \(^u^)/ →
Lanzarote is a Canary Island just off the coast of Africa (although it is Spanish territory). I have been once before in my mid-teens and from what I remember it’s a great place to drive around with new roads, and the rest of it is mostly beaches – not much activity but great for relaxing. You will need to book flights to Lanzarote as it is an island, no land option unfortunately!
