Adventure

A Taste of Eden

February 22, 2010 · 17 comments

Today’s adventure was a break from driving very far, a place called Eden looked like a good place to stop. With a population of 3,000 there wasn’t much to do or see, there was however a very nice beach.

I don’t think I need to add any more…

Now this is a catch!

We left to make a move towards Sydney to give our last day a short drive and arrived at Batehams Bay. Population 16,000 this place is a bit bigger then Eden and we arrived by a fishing area for the night. Whilst I was completely unsuccessful at fishing, the guys next to me lost a very large creature (almost 2M long) and managed to catch a sting ray and small shark (seen to the right), kudos to them!

Leaving Melbourne

February 19, 2010 · 4 comments

After a good few days in Melbourne, which I really enjoyed, it’s by far my favourite city in Australia so far (and I suspect will remain that way) and catching the movie ‘Avatar’ in 3D at IMAX (Melbourne has the 3rd worlds biggest flat screen there) we headed off to our final destination: Sydney.

Off To Melbourne

We spent a couple of days in Adelaide (separate post on the city later), visiting the sights including the zoo, pictures from that will be mid-week photo essays (first week is my more stylish photos, second week is sleeping animals and third week is the best of the rest).

Koalas and Kangaroos

Today I woke up to find I was in the middle of a market, a small car boot style event, with a quick look around I ended up buying a book, nothing like a bit of non-battery powered entertainment for a long road trip. Read the rest! \(^u^)/ →

The Great Ocean Road

February 8, 2010 · 10 comments

This is a guest post by Katie Oakes from The Tap Tap Bus. She is embarking on her own adventure with partner Richard across Australia and is a fellow MatadorU travel writing student. Luckily she managed to drive down the Great Ocean Road, which I completely missed on my drive from Perth to Sydney. Here is her take on one of the most handsome roads in the world.

“Driving on the motorway isn’t as hard as I thought it’d be,” Richard comments, hogging the middle lane as cars zoom past on either side.

“You’ve not driven on the motorway before?” I ask, incredulous.

He shrugs his shoulders as another car flies past and veers back in front of him. “They don’t have any in Northern Ireland.”

We’ve just hired a car from Travellers Autobarn to drive the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. Richard, as the only male, agreed to do the first leg of the trip, keeping his motorway virgin status to himself. Read the rest! \(^u^)/ →
