Meeting some German girls in a funky van on todays warm day, as well as another mixed european camper group at our first fuel stop, it seemed nearly everyone was skipping the next coastal region to make pace towards Adelaide (which was the great ocean road which everyone we met after said was the only thing to not miss drive wise).

Funky painted van
We decided to do the same and save a days driving and a tank of fuel (about 500km) as the day would start and end in beaches as it happens anyway.
Early on we crossed the half way point of Australia marked by… a giant parrot.

Half Way across Australia
Nothing else overly special happened during the day, but we got our first taste of internet for 5 days when we stopped at Port Augusta and met up with some more German girls in a hanging Honda (who were also desperate for a bit of internet) who decided to join us in finding a place to stay the night.

Back on the road
Unfortunately no photography or video follows, but our candles and stash of German beer was appreciated as the girls could celebrate Christmas in German tradition (lighting candles every Sunday 4 weeks before Christmas) and sang us German Christmas carols for a festive night.

It seems like Australia is full of those big statues… In the book “Down Under”, Bill Bryson was totally amazed by them, but mostly because they were the only thing to see :-)

I love the van dwellers you seem to keep collecting along the way, hehe.

Nicolas – I did see a couple of the big statues, always fancied reading Bill Bryson’s books but not got around to it yet.
Chris – Just 2, surprising as the day before it was 92!
Marta – Not sure on the coast name, but it’s the one the Great Ocean Road follows. I.e. the best and most scenic road in Australia (you can actually get helicoptor rides over it, it’s that scenic).
Candice – There is a few about :-) Wicked Campers alone have 900 camper vans for rent across Australia.
I am so digging all of those camper vans – you could do a nice photo essay of them all when your journey is done!
