So after 2 and a half years of running this blog I’ve caved in and gone down the vanity route of getting a facebook page, that needs to be ‘liked’ to prove my worth and popularity as a blogger. Of course it’s looking pitiful now, so please head on over and give it a like, it’s only 2 clicks away and the first one is below:
In fact I’ll make it a bit easier with 1 click:
In case you’re wondering about the photo on there, it’s of me consoling a zombie infected doll outside a horror hospital in a Japanese theme park (will write about that another time!)
If I get 30 likes on there, then I’ll get my fingers into action and make a custom front page for this site. I think it needs a little sprucing up so just need you guys to poke me in the right direction and show I’d be doing it for people other than myself.
I changed the red on green theme recently and went for a red on greyscale theme instead, so a bit more black and white to emphasise the content and step back on web design. The current header image is a panoramic of the Odaiba district of Tokyo in case you’re wondering. A very fun place to visit if you’ve got a spare day in Tokyo, it’s a popular dating spot.
Winning a contest
Anyway in other news (and to explain the rest of the post title) I won an award! Voted Top Winner in the Miscellaneous category of TravelerVoice I got myself another badge of honour:
Italian Meatball Recipe
Finally, in an attempt to give back to the community, I’m entering a hostel food competition. I’ve not made much food in hostels before, as it’s usually cheaper to eat out in places where I like to stay in hostels, but this is a recipe I regularly use when living in a camper van in Australia.
My quick and delicious recipe for Italian meatballs, it can be done in one pan and with one wooden spoon (essential for campervan living!). It serves 1-2 depending on amount of beef and size of onion/egg. What you will need:
- 200-300g mince/hashed beef
- An onion
- An egg
- A tin of chopped tomatos
- Basil/spices and cooking oil.
1. Chop onion into small pieces and mix with the beef and egg by hand or large wooden spoon.
2. Form mixture into balls of your preferred size. I like them around 3cm in diameter like golf ball size.
3. Heat a little oil and put all the meatballs one by one into a frying pan turning occasionally
4. Once all the balls are browned evenly, reduce heat and chuck tin of chopped tomatoes in and as much basil as you fancy (I usually use a quarter of a spice jar so around 12-15g). You can also use your local common spice if basil is difficult to get. Replace with chilli flakes for spicy meatballs.
5. After any spare water has gone, take off the stove and serve on a plate or eat out of the pan if you want to save further on washing.
Enjoy and tell me what you think in the comments!

Thanks :-) I had a group on there about travel with over 100 people, but it’s being archived now, and didn’t realise the difference between group and pages.
Wot! No Worcestershire Sauce? I’d give your recipe a whirl but I am waiting to find out what did in that zombie, first!

I’m not sure what is inside the zombie, maybe a lost soul.
So… not your meatballs then?
How did you work that out?
They sounds like perfectly wonderful meatball to me!
Thanks! I didn’t win the competition though, I think some vegetarian group got together to vote for all the non-meat stuff as all meat based suggestions got low results it seems.
