Shop you like?

Malaysia certainly isn’t short of places to shop. Big shopping complexes are aplenty here. I seem to find one, think its massive, walk around the corner, then find a bigger one.

One I went to recently is called the Lot 10 shopping complex, it probably has about 100 shops in it, it even has a cafe called the Jackie Chan cafe with a luxurious seating area (no shoes, feet up), it was like a circular bed for 50 people or so to fit on. It was designed by someone with a bit of fashion sense from what I can see, chrome underplated escalators with coloured neons lighting them, and the whole building was like a monkey nut shape with 2 curvy ends.

Across the road from that was the Bukit Bintang Plaza, I actually ate here twice staying here, there is about 30-40 resturants here. I don’t know how big it actually is in terms of floor space, but I’d say around 4 full size football pitches, and spread over 7 floors, it certainly takes a good 5 minutes to walk from one end to the other and is roughly square shape. Nothing fancy in here, just rows and rows of small shops, every level also seemed to have a mobile phone stall from all the major manufactuers, Sony Ericsson, Nokia, LG, Samsung, etc. Pretty much all major resturants could be found here, and most small shops you can think off. Tattoo parlours were next to handbag shops, relaxing spa shops next to the insistent watch dealers, video game stores next to travel agents and pharmacies, the list goes on.

Finally (still in the same district of Bukit Bintang this) amongst all the others, I’m pretty sure the biggest was Times Square.

Times square is actually a VIP hotel, with appropriate multi story parking, and a whoping 10 floors (+ ground, and lower ground floor) of shops. I won’t go on about shops specifically, as you can guess what is there. But on the lower ground floor there was a full size supermarket alongside all the other shops, so you can start to appreciate the scale of this place. Above the supermarket on the ground floor was a larger floor space with escalators (no shops this side of the building). On the 1st floor there was a multi screen cinema, not sure how many screens, but I’m guessing a fair amount! I think it took over 2 floors actually. Above that was the bowling alley, again, not sure how many lanes, but I doubt it’s less then 20. Most major shopping complexs are complete with a large cinema and bowling alley, what more could you want? Well the Malaysians certainly came up with another idea. How about an indoor theme park? Fully equipped with roller coaster of course! I think the video tells the story better then I can, so I’ll leave it at that.
