What’s Going On?

I’ve not done much of an update on this website in a while (not even a April 1st joke!), so thought I’d take the time to explain. It’s certainly not abandoned, but my topics of choice to write about are getting slimmer, the main reason being this is my travel blog, and I’ve not travelled much in the past half year. It was a bit like most other earthquakes at first. You stop whatever you’re doing under the sensation of the earth moving, realise what’s going on, and just wait. Earthquakes are not uncommon in Japan, much like many other areas of the world. They soon become natural, albeit a bit bothersome.

I was sat at the desk on reception at British Hills, a British themed hotel in the mountains of Fukushima, Japan. As guests arrived on the courtesy bus around 14:40 Japan time, I sat them down and began my usual spiel about the attractions available and hope they would have a nice time, etc. The earth started moving as it sometimes does. Starting with a little shake, there was nothing to worry about seemingly.

Tokyo Tower

I’ve featured the Tokyo Tower a few times before, mostly when relating it to my new years celebrations in Tokyo 2010/2011. However I did visit it prior to this and take a trip up the Eiffel Tower inspired design.

2011 turned out to be quite an eventful year for me. Kicking it off with celebration at Zojoji temple and watching Tokyo Tower lit up promised good things. In the same weekend in Tokyo I also discovered Japanese lucky bags, a surprising thrill comes from buying a reasonably priced bag and receiving a highly priced item inside tempted many shoppers.

Of course the big news of the year though came with the March 11th earthquake off the coast of Japan. I wasn’t far off this, just 80km away from the Fukushima nuclear reactors. Read the rest! \(^u^)/ →
