I have been asked to review a hotel comparison website called HotelCalculator.com so this is what this post is about.
Firstly – it’s got a cool an appropriate name, you already know what it’s about just from the title. It is a place to compare hotel prices in the city you are interested in visiting.
The layout is lovely and clean too, it is easy to navigate and not stuffed with the usual flashy ‘look at me’ bits many other accommodation websites can sport. This makes it easy to use, with a large box right at the top of the page in orange giving you what you are there for – a hotel search box.
Hotel calculator picks up hotels available from other websites which gives its large capacity. For example I searched for Tokyo hotels and it came up with 682 for me! Of course in turn this brings a massive selection from budget to luxurious hotels to suit anyone after a hotel for a night or 10. You can even narrow down your search by specifically requiring amenities you desire, such as parking, disabled access, computer availability, whether pets are allowed, etc. Another option is to specify the location, close to airport for a quick stay or near the party area for a night with the locals? It’s up to you.
The website boasts over 100,000 hotels, including apartments, hostels and guest houses across 13,000 cities worldwide. There is no fee to use it, and you can save money by comparison all those hotels in one area at the click of a button, like any other price comparison website.
Finally there is also an accompanying iPhone application. Unfortunately I don’t have an iPhone/iPod so I can’t test it out. The app works in the same was as the online price comparison part. But being in your pocket, it means you can book a hotel when you arrive in a city without pre booking and see is what is available in your area, which is especially useful when you’re tired (which of course everyone is in those situations) and you don’t want to wander around ages looking for a reasonable deal.
