So today I woke up to Mr Toilet Scorpion.
Whilst this is not an everyday occurance it happens in tropical environments, but it was the first time it happened to me so needless to say, I held my needs in and used an alternative toilet.
I didn’t know the procedure for removing toilet scorpions, for reference if anyone wants to know, pull it out (using tongs) and snap it in half. I don’t think flushing is a great idea in this situation.
Whilst shaving I had a moth about the size of a small mouse bang against the bathroom window. Being the way I am, I sprayed water at the window to try and get it to go away, hoping it wouldn’t get through the gap at the top of the window.
It didn’t.
It did however find a gap a the bottom of the window and flew at me aiming for the light in the room. All I can say is I’m glad I have large feet as the boots came in handy tonight.
There was also a lot of ants hidden behind one of the shower head mounts, luckily they can’t fly so was washed away in a waterfall of glory.
I almost had mercy on the spiders in my room as one went for a moth as I was chasing it about. The spider was unsuccessful though, so I flushed him down the loo for punishment as well.
This is a picture of a millipede that entered my room on the first night here too, but I haven’t mentioned before:
With all that said. I’ve managed to go an entire week here at chins house with only 1 mosquito bite, which is better then 3/4 of the hostels and hotels I’ve stayed at so far in Kuala Lumpur.

haha toilet scorp! insanity XD
What great Pic!
That photo of the toilet scorpion is priceless!
It’s always those unique moments in life, you don’t know what the hell to do, so the first thought is always ‘I better get my camera for this’. Thanks for stopping by Dave :)
I am glad it wasn’t me that saw this Scorpion! I don’t like these creeps. I guess I won’t be going to Kuala Lumpur.
To be fair, it was in Sandakan, not Kuala Lumpur. It was on a completely different island from KL and there are at least 4 other countries closer to KL than Sandakan city is :) So don’t let it hold you back!
Are you sure the scorpion ain’t dead? They can’t swim or submerge can they? Still need to breathe air!
I once had a giant millipede like the one pictured here in a helmet without knowing it. Halfway through my ride it started creeping down from the side of face, nearly causing me to crash!
I don’t know. But the family I was staying with said it was alive but they killed it. I have no idea what it was doing there.
Giant millipede in the helmet? Jeez!!! That sounds fucking scary
Oh my. What’s up with you and insects, Rob? They seem to like you a lot! All those critters in one day?? ;)
Oh my. The moth would have made me faint on the spot. Good thing too because I would not have to see that extremely scary scorpion. You’re one brave creature for not letting out even one yelp!
The bed bugs must have been been scared off by the scorpion. ;) Geez … what an insect-infested week! It’s good that we can all laugh about this now, but I bet it was pretty off-putting while you were in that predicament.

All part of the fun of being abroad :)
Thanks to Les Stroud a.k.a. Survivorman, I have learned the larger the scorpion the less dangerous they are. In terms of their venom anyway…
