When I was in Singapore last year I was well aware of AC/DC’s forthcoming tour in Australia, just when I was due to spend time there – I had to get tickets.
Up at 2am when the tickets came up for sale. I typed the address, but couldn’t log onto the website. Disaster! Despite being in a country with one of the fastest internet connections in the world, after 10 minutes I got through to learn the concert had sold out, but to wait 5 minutes and the 2nd tour date in Sydney would become available.
Refresh the page… nothing!
10 minutes later I refreshed a news website to learn the 2nd batch had also sold out within 10 minutes. Would I ever get a beloved AC/DC ticket?
One more tour date… 22nd February left. I refreshed the page. I’m in! Buy Buy Buy! It’s like being on Wall Street, only… more serious. As it turns out the front area next to the stage had already sold out, but I got in the semi-circle behind. Yes!
And so 9 months later, it was the day. The ANZ Stadium in Sydney Olympic Park A 70 year record for Sydney, 26 C night time temperature.
Warm up bands ‘Calling All Cars’ (who I think are crap) and ‘Wolfmother’ (who I like and remind me of Led Zeppelin) got the crowd warmed up while the light dropped, the moon rised, and the devil horns started to glow.
The stadium filled, the lights went off, and the distinctive sound of a rock and roll steam train bellowed it’s exhaust to a cartoon video ending in the rock and roll train crashing into the stage.
It had begun and the party had only started, after charging forwards (why does everyone do that?) to not lose a space, instant sweat covered body, but the music and atmosphere made none of that matter.
Half way through the most epic of nights singing ‘Live Wire’ The background screens showed images of Bon Scott, former front man of AC/DC which was a nice touch and much applauded by the crowd.
For ‘Whole Lotta Rosie’ we was lucky enough to have the lady on stage… riding the train.
I tried to film the experience whilst there and for the first time ever got the overheating warning on my camera and filled the memory card up. So unfortunately that’s it for the photos.
Angus finished the set with a 15 minute (!) long guitar solo, and the encore was Highway to Hell, and For Those About to Rock (we salute you).
I have to apologise to my future wife right now that our marriage wasn’t the best night of my life, because I think a night rocking with AC/DC is going to be hard to beat…

I’m not much of a concert person but that AC/DC concert looks like it was awesome. Great pictures.

Pictures look awesome!
I can’t decide whose’s figure is more disturbing: Rosie’s or Barbie’s.
Back in Black and Thunderstruck are two of my favorites. I wonder if they played them at this concert.
They have also released those two in Rock Band version.
Anyways, your photos are tops. Thanks for sharing them.
I hope to see Ac/DC on their next swing through New York.
Stetson
Alouise – Indeed! I am glad I got to see them live before I die, lets put it that way ^_^
Steph – thanks! It’s not easy to get pictures at a concert like this, but a long range zoom certainly helps!
Heather – I don’t know, but they both got a song written about them. I think I prefer ‘Whole Lotta Rosie’ to ‘Barbie Girl’ though :-P
Stetson – They played both of those songs :-D in fact the 2 hour concert was mainly the classics, I think 4 songs from the new album got on.
Better book tickets early, I suspect New York will be a sell out pretty quickly, just like everywhere else.
I am 25 but I love old-school! AC/DC rocks!
